Critical Language and Literary Studies (CLLS) is a (double-blind) peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by Shahid Beheshti University. The journal is dedicated primarily to advancing research in literary criticism, literary theory, and critical approaches to analyzing texts as cultural artifacts. Through the publication of original scholarly research, CLLS seeks to contribute to contemporary debates in literary theory and criticism, and to foster dialogue among researchers working across diverse intellectual and geographical contexts.
The journal's central mission is to promote rigorous and theoretically informed scholarship that deepens understanding of literary texts, cultural literary criticism, and interpretive practices. Particular emphasis is placed on research that engages critically with questions of representation, narrative, textuality, and cultural production. By encouraging methodological reflection and sustained engagement with current scholarship, the journal aims to support research that contributes substantively to international discussions in literary studies and criticism.
While literary studies constitute the journal's primary focus, CLLS also welcomes selected contributions in language education and pedagogy that demonstrate clear relevance to literary, cultural, or humanistic inquiry. Research in this area is expected to engage with broader theoretical, cultural, or educational questions and to contribute to ongoing scholarly conversations beyond local or institutional contexts.
The journal publishes original research essays that meet internationally recognized standards of scholarly rigor, originality, and significance. All submissions undergo a rigorous double-blind peer-review process by at least two experts, and are evaluated on the basis of their contribution to knowledge, methodological soundness, and engagement with relevant scholarship.
As an open-access journal, CLLS is committed to the free dissemination of research and to supporting international scholarly exchange. The journal welcomes contributions from researchers around the world and seeks to serve as a forum for critical inquiry, intellectual dialogue, and innovative research in literary studies and related fields.
