This article analyzes and seeks to explain the relationship between human and their animal companion in Dickens’s novels. Dickens’s main objective, throughout his novels, was to find an answer to the vital question of how to live especially in that moment of crisis. This answer will not be found unless; one is able to define the characteristic of a good citizen. Almost in all of his novels, this consistent message emerges that creating a community becomes an essential virtue in achieving equilibrium. To divulge Dickens’s worldview, the Liberal Humanism as a critical approach is used. Dickens was a major and widely read novelist of his own era. Dickens’s popularity is chiefly due to his intense human sympathy; his unique emotional and dramatic power; and his aggressive humanitarian aspiration for the reform of all evils and abuses, whether they weigh upon the oppressed classes or helpless individuals. Based on his personal familiarity with the life of the poor and apparently of sufferers in all ranks, in his novels, he gave voice to them. Through his works, readers come to perceive the virtues of love and the pleasures of home in a defected, flawed, and indifferent world. Despite the bleakness of his view of society and the fierceness of his criticism of it, his novels always end with a sentimental assertion of the virtues of heart and home.

Cyberpunk is one of the latest genres in the development of science fiction. In it, characters deal with various cybernetic and technological advancements with futuristic affinities. In this genre, characters experience such futuristic advancements through a series of images and surface values. In the present study, it is asked what the status of characters’ knowledge and identity is in the cyberpunk world. Through utilization of ideas of Garfield Benjamin and William Haney, two well-known critics in Cyberculture and Posthuman/Cyborg Identity, the study believes that cyberpunk citizens’ knowledge and definition from their identities is shattered and non-essential. Cyberpunk citizens have fluid movement between their various identities and have a simultaneous sense of belonging and non-belonging to all of them. All these identities are formed around the hollowness and emptiness of the citizens’ identity core, which is the only essence of posthuman subjects.

In Jacques Derrida's "The Law of Genre", his opposition with generic exclusivity is materialized through "law" and "counter law" concepts. He believes that the best position for enunciating any kind of generic specification would be an aporetic position between "law" and "counter law" positions. In the present study, the ambivalent position of George Bernard Shaw's plays towards the institution of marriage will be studied though utilization of such Derridean theoretical framework. For materialization of the theoretical framework, a number of French well-made plays will be considered so that their endogamic and exogamic positions towards the issue of marriage can be regarded as the "law" and "counter law" Derridean positions. Taking these fixed and unitary positions in French well-made plays into account, Shaw's ambivalent regard towards the institution of marriage will be positioned in the aporetic space between endogamic and exogamic positions. In the present study, Shaw's mastery of well-made techniques will be explicated and at the same time, his escape from those techniques will be represented. Such escape depicts Shaw's critical attitude towards intellectual, social and religious trends of his contemporary time
