چکیده
مضمون استعمار و جلوه‌های آن از دیرباز در آثار ادبی مورد بررسی و کاوش قرار گرفته است. با گذر از دوران استعمار، بررسی جایگاه هویت دیگر نژادها در قرن 21 میلادی در کشور آمریکا، نمایانگر جلوه‌های اجتماعی و سیاسی عصر حاضر خواهد بود. مقاله حاضر خوانشی سیاسی-اجتماعی است بر جایگاه شخصیت‌های سایر نژادها و مسلمانان در رمان‌های «دربِ پلکان» اثر لری مور[1]و «زن بالای پلکان» اثر کلر مسود[2] که تصویرگر دیگرستیزی پنهان آمریکایی‌ها نسبت به افراد دیگر نژادها و مذاهب است. بر اساس نظریه‌ی سیاسی-انتقادی شانتل موف، فیلسوف و سیاستمدار فرانسوی، برابری و تفاهم همگان امری غیرممکن بوده و آنچه در دموکراسی پسامدرن رخ می‌دهد سیاست دموکراسی کثرتگرا در راستای کنترل مخالفان است. بررسی فرهنگی-اجتماعی رمان‌های مذکور، که نمایانگر جامعه‌ی آمریکا در دوران پس از حملات یازده سپتامبر است، رویارویی پنهان هویت آمریکایی و غیر آمریکایی را به تصویر می کشد که در نتیجه غیرآمریکایی‌ها به‌عنوان دشمنان محتمل امنیت کشور و مردم آمریکا در اذهان عموم نهادینه شده‌اند. این رویارویی مبین این حقیقت است که دموکراسی کثرت گرا به معنای آزادی و برابری همگان نمی‌باشد و دیگرانگاری نسبت به سایر نژادها و ادیان نمایانگر نوعی خصومت پنهان است که به صورت "دشمن دوست‌نما" نمود پیدا می کند. خوانش ادبی حاضر با بررسی هویت "دشمن دوست‌نما" در جامعه آمریکا نشان می‌دهد که استعمار در دنیای پسامدرن به پایان نرسیده است و پس از حملات یازده سپتامبر در آمریکا، رعب و وحشت ایجاد شده نسبت به دیگرنژادها و مسلمانان، سیاستی نوین را سبب شده است که بر طبق آن، "دیگری" به جای طرد شدن، به‌عنوان "دشمن دوست‌نما" کنترل می‌شود.

Colonialism and its literary reflections have been long interrogated in literary studies. With the advent of the 21st century, studying racial identities and how they are socio-politically otherised in the United States would reveal the rubric of identity politics that stand as an emblem of the present century politics. The present article is a sociopolitical analysis of racialized characters in Lorrie Moore’s A Gate at the Stairs (2009) and Claire Messud’s The Woman Upstairs (2013). Applying Chantal Mouffe’s ideas on democratic paradox and agonistic pluralism, the present study suggests that in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks, due to the feelings of anxiety and tension aroused by the 9/11 attacks, the American identities consider the racialized identities as sources of probable threats; however, those of other cultures and races are neocolonially tolerated rather than being eliminated. Hence, the hidden truth in the postmodern America, as reflected in the selected novels, is an antagonism toward those of other races or religions that is neocolonially controlled under the name of agonism.
